Having tried our luck on Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg – trying to make them laugh with a barrage of distinctively unfunny dad jokes – we then gave it our best shot on the two newest recruits to the Daddy’s Home franchise, as we sat down with Hollywood heavyweights Mel Gibson and John Lithgow.

Gibson and Lithgow play the fathers to Wahlberg and Ferrell, respectively, in this comedy sequel – and we asked them about the attraction to getting involved in a light, endearingly irreverent production, especially off the back of more challenging, dramatic affairs. They also speak about the fun they had on set and why their characters are heightened versions of themselves. They also talk about their own relationships with their offspring and whether they ever deliberately try to embarrass them – and finally we give them our very best dad jokes, and see if they find any of them funny…

Synopsis

Father and stepfather Dusty and Brad join forces to make Christmastime perfect for the children. Their newfound partnership soon gets put to the test when Dusty’s old-school, macho dad and Brad’s gentle father arrive to turn the holiday upside down. After a sudden change in plans, the four men decide to take the kids to a luxury resort for a fun-filled getaway that turns into a hilariously chaotic adventure.
