Just a decade after the release of Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed, Warner Bros. are planning on rebooting the franchise with a new live-action movie. The original two were written by Guardians of the Galaxy’s James Gunn and directed by Raja Gosnell (The Smurfs).

Both of the movies did well at the box office, but the sequel was not well-received by critics, and the iconic Hanna-Barbera has since been kept on the small screen and direct-to-DVD animated features.

According to Deadline, Charles Roven (who produced the first two movies which starred Freddie Prinze Jr, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Matthew Lillard, and Linda Cardellini) will also be spearheading this new take, although he’s the only one currently attached to the reboot, so it’s obviously still at a very early stage.

How they will recreate Scooby Doo for a new audience remains to be seen. The last two movies had a human cast and a CGI Scooby, so could we see an actual dog play the character this time?

That would certainly help it feel fresher, but as special effects have taken such a leap since 2004, another digital Scooby Doo would be no bad thing! Whether this is a sign that studios are running out of ideas is debatable, but Scooby Doo has been entertaining youngsters for decades, so you can’t really blame Warner Bros. for hoping to introduce him to a whole new generation!

Which actors do you think should make up the new cast?
