Paramount+ has greenlit a new drama series titled ‘Laird,’ with Oscar®, Emmy® and Golden Globe® winner Kenneth Branagh set to star and executive produce.
Set against the breathtaking backdrop of the modern Scottish Highlands, ‘Laird’ follows a proud Scot determined to protect his ancestral home from a shadowy American billionaire with his sights set on buying up the glens.
Branagh will play the Laird of Castle Drummoch, who finds himself caught in a battle to preserve his family’s land as oligarchical land grabbing threatens to reshape the Highlands forever. But with family feuds, buried secrets and star-crossed romances thrown into the mix, protecting the past could prove just as complicated as facing the future.

The series is created by Jez Butterworth (MobLand, The Agency), John-Henry Butterworth (Nine Perfect Strangers, The Agency) and Georgia Lee (The 100, Partner Track).
Branagh, known for acclaimed performances in ‘Oppenheimer’ and ‘Mayday,’ will executive produce alongside David C. Glasser, Jez Butterworth, John-Henry Butterworth, Joe Wright, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin, Bob Yari, Charles Finch and Keith Cox.
Two-time BAFTA®-winning filmmaker Joe Wright, whose credits include ‘Pride & Prejudice,’ ‘Atonement,’ ‘Darkest Hour’ and ‘Cyrano,’ is attached to direct the pilot.
Produced by Paramount Television Studios and 101 Studios, ‘Laird’ promises an epic family saga packed with power struggles, romance and secrets, all set against the dramatic landscape of the Scottish Highlands.
