Since opening on Wednesday, Jurassic World has broken a number of records, making box office history in the process. After earning $307.2 million overseas and an incredible $204.6 million in North America, it now has a whopping worldwide cume of $511.8 million; that’s the first time a movie has grossed that amount in a single weekend. Jurassic World was however helped by the fact that it reached China this weekend too.

That takes nothing away from just how impressive a debut the movie had though, and having the biggest global debut of all-time will no doubt do wonders for both the franchise and Colin Trevorrow’s career.

This time last year, it’s fair to say that no one would have guessed that Jurassic World would have a bigger opening weekend than Avengers: Age of Ultron domestically, but that’s exactly what’s happened. It’s only second behind The Avengers for the highest opening in North America, and behind only Harry Potter And The Deathly Hollows Part 2 internationally. Don’t be surprised to see Universal announce a sequel shortly!
