Deadline are reporting that James Wan, the co-creator and director of the original Saw, is set to direct a film adaptation of the comic book Nightfall. Currently in co-production between Platinum Studios and Aurora Productions, Nightfall follows a man who is sent to a prison run by vampires.

Wan was quick to declare his love for the premise:

“The minute I heard the concept, I was in. Reading the graphic novel cemented that. Like Saw, it’s a simple concept that, if executed properly, will be so cool.”

With Wan set to oversee the script, his Insidious, which will play in the Midnight Madness programme at this years’ Toronto Film festival, could give us a better sense of his directorial style.

While the premise might promise a certain degree of intrigue, you have to wonder just how much more blood-sucking general audiences can be willing to take.

The source graphic novel was created and written by Scott O. Brown, with illustrations provided by Ferran Xalabarder.
