James Franco, who spent 2011 saving Zooey Deschanel and rather helplessly watching apes rise, has signed on to appear in Harmony Korine’s upcoming indie film Spring Breakers.

According to Variety (via Collider), the plot centres on four college girls who are caught robbing a fast food restaurant in the lead up to Spring Break.

Billed as “a rapping drug and arms dealer who bails them out and entices them to kill his arch-rival, a murderer who is appropriately named Arch”, Franco will play the role of Alien.

Although the only main character to have been officially cast, the filmmakers are reportedly in negotiations with Emma Roberts to star as “Candy, a southern brunette who feeds off danger”, as well as Vanessa Hudgens and Selena Gomez as the aforementioned co-eds.
