Illumination has assembled an impressive voice cast for its next original animated feature, ‘Not Alone,’ with Timothée Chalamet and Selena Gomez set to lead the alien-themed adventure.

Announced at the Annecy Animation Festival, the film marks Chalamet’s first major animated voice role. He will play Joe, an introverted rocket mechanic who prefers a quiet and solitary existence. Gomez will voice Fran, a gifted astro-botanist working on the world’s first plant-fuelled rocket.

According to the official synopsis, Joe and Fran are brought together to prepare for the rocket’s inaugural launch. While sparks quickly begin to fly between them, both struggle when it comes to matters of the heart. Their lives are turned upside down when three tiny alien fugitives seek refuge in Joe’s home.

The extraterrestrial trio, Dunk, Welly and Shirm, are attempting to evade Officer Zandro, an overzealous but ineffective interplanetary law enforcer. Believing Fran’s groundbreaking rocket could be their ticket home, the aliens become entwined in the mission, creating a series of unexpected complications and adventures.

Joining Chalamet and Gomez in the voice cast are Rob Brydon as Dunk, Diane Morgan as Welly and Jamie Demetriou as Shirm. Brett Goldstein will lend his voice to Officer Zandro, while Allison Janney and Lamorne Morris round out the supporting cast.

A trio of Illumination veterans is directing the project. Eric Guillon, who co-directed ‘Despicable Me 3’ and helped create the visual identity of the ‘Despicable Me’ and ‘Minions’ franchises, will co-direct alongside Claire Dodgson, editor of ‘The Lorax’ and ‘Minions,’ and Jonathan Del Val, co-director of ‘Minions: The Rise of Gru’ and ‘The Secret Life of Pets 2.’

‘Not Alone’ is currently scheduled to arrive in cinemas on April 16, 2027.
