Thanks to the exclusive cover story over at Entertainment Weekly, a hot new batch of first look images have emerged for James Wan’s Aquaman featuring Jason Momoa.

The new images reveal our first look at the characters Black Manta, King Orm/Ocean Master, Vulko, Mera, and Queen Atlanna. Wan has also gone on record to describe one of the film’s villains Black Manta; “part mercenary but a full-time pirate who in his suit will look like some crazy alien from outer space. Black Manta is a really interesting character who is somehow factored into this story, but our main story is about Jason [Momoa] and Patrick [Wilson].”

The story focuses on Aquaman, the reluctant ruler of Atlantis, caught between a surface world constantly ravaging the sea and Atlanteans looking to lash out in revolt. He is, nevertheless, committed to protecting the entire globe.

Previously Momoa said “This is a totally different beast. In Aquaman, you see when his parents met and what happened to them. Then the little boy being raised and finding his powers and going through that and never being accepted on either side. And then becoming this man who puts up all these walls. You just slowly see this man harden up and be completely reluctant wanting to be king and not knowing what to do with these powers he has. I think James Wan just killed it.

Joining Momoa on the cast are Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus of the aquatic kingdom of Xebel, Willem Dafoe as science advisor Dr. Vulko, Nicole Kidman as Atlanna, Aquaman’s mother, Temuera Morrison as his father, Thomas Curry, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as the scheming Black Manta as well as Patrick Wilson as Orm, Aquaman’s troublesome half-brother.
