Jack Black is the latest name to be added to Warner Bros, Vertigo and Legendary’s dabble with the upcoming ‘Minecraft’ as it ramps up the beginning of production.
Black joins in the role of Steve in the feature which is yet to divulge its plot secrecy. Jason Momoa will head up the cast. Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks and Sebastian Eugene Hansen will also star.
The feature of the popular video game comes from Vertigo, co-financier Legendary, Mojang/Microsoft and Momoa’s On the Roam. Jared Hess is directing. Producers include Roy Lee, Jon Berg, Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, Momoa, Torfi Frans Olafsson, Vu Bui and the late Jill Messick. EPs are Todd Hallowell, Kayleen Walters, Brian Mendoza and Jonathan Spaihts.

In 2023, Jack Black played the role of the villainous Bowser in ‘The Super Mario Bros Movie,’ which was the second highest-grossing movie of the year. Produced by Illumination and Universal, the movie earned $1.36 billion globally. Recently, Black received his third Golden Globe nomination for co-writing and performing the movie’s love ballad “Peaches.”
