‘The Raid’ star Iko Uwais has been cast as the villain in Sylvestor Stallone’s ‘The Expendables 4.’

Plot details are being kept under wraps, but the movie will focus on a group of veteran mercenaries. Uwais will play a former military officer-turned-arms dealer with his own private army.

Stuntman-turned-director Scott Waugh is set to direct the returning cast of Jason Statham, Sylvester Stallone, Dolph Lundgren and Randy Couture. Megan Fox, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Jacob Scipio and Andy Garcia are new additions to the cast.

Stallone directed the first movie and wrote the script with David Callaham, focusing on characters with names such as Lee Christmas (Statham), Gunner Jensen (Lundgren) and Toll Road (Couture). Stallone has since confirmed this will be his last before handing the baton over to Statham.

The film series itself was created to pay homage to the blockbuster action films of the 1980s and ’90s and also pays gratitude to the action stars of those decades, as well as more recent stars in action. The series consists of three films: The Expendables (2010), The Expendables 2 (2012) and The Expendables 3 (2014),

Originally created by Callaham, the franchise is close to Stallone’s heart after having co-written the screenplay for the previous episodes, although the fourth has had a bumpy ride coming to fruition after Stallone clashed with studio bosses over a number of issues which included a director and screenplay.
