Regardless of how disappointing The Amazing Spider-Man franchise was, the chances of Spidey finding his way back to Marvel always seemed incredibly slim. However, history was made when Sony and Marvel announced a deal which would allow the iconic character to become part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Should it all work out, there’s every chance that 20th Century Fox will take note and consider a similar sort of team-up. However, the relationship between them and Marvel isn’t said to be good, and unlike Spider-Man, the X-Men appear to be doing just fine without the assistance of Captain America and The Avengers!

Hugh Jackman – who has been playing Wolverine since 2000 – seems optimistic that it could one day happen though, and had this to say about such a collaboration in a recent interview with Yahoo. “I would love it. That’s the best thing about comic books; you can just pitch these characters into each other,” Jackman told Yahoo. “I’m surprised by what’s happened with Spider-Man joining. You’re in a very complex world where big, big sums of money are being spent for different franchises and so getting them together is difficult.”

“Two years ago I’d have said you’d be a real optimist to think it’d ever happen,”he added, “but weirdly now I just think it maybe could. I think there is the possibility that it will happen.” It could, but still seems unlikely!

As for which character he would like to see Wolverine team up with at some point in the future, Jackman has a clear favourite! He told the site that Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man would be his top pick, but it would have to be him playing the Armoured Avenger as he “can’t think of him as anyone else.” What do you think?
