The second season of Gotham is now well under way in the US, but UK fans have still got quite the wait after it was announced recently that the show won’t return to Channel 5 until 2016. The reason for the delay has not yet been revealed, but this latest bit of casting news is sure to leave you even more desperate to see what happens next in the Batman prequel!

House of Cards star Nathan Darrow has now joined the cast of Gotham as Victor Fries, a.k.a. Mr. Freeze. He plays Frank Underwood’s bodyguard and occasional lover in the critically acclaimed Netflix series, and will first appear during episodes twelve and thirteen.

Gotham’s version of the villain is described as ferociously smart and eminently capable in his work as one of Gotham’s preeminent cryogenics engineers. Victor struggles to make meaningful connections with others. The one exception is his wife, Nora, who has tragically fallen ill with a terminal disease. Victor’s love for Nora knows no bounds, so as her condition worsens, he goes to extreme measures to figure out a way to freeze her before she dies. This harrowing journey leads to his transformation into the legendary DC villain, Mr. Freeze.

This is an example of yet another classic Batman villain seemingly taking on their famous persona years before Bruce Wayne dons the cape and cowl, something which is sure to annoy some comic book fans. Still, it’s going to be interesting to see how Freeze’s story unfolds in the series, as Gotham has done a pretty good job with these origin stories so far.
