As the sixth and final season of House of Cards approaches later on this year, Netflix have revealed two first look images. Robin Wright takes centre stage in the images, as the Female president in the wake of Spaceygate.

The cards came tumbling down towards the tail end of last year after the sexual misconduct allegations against Kevin Spacey arose. Netflix was quick to react by halting production on the series while they figured out their next move after terminating his contract.

The streaming giant quickly came to the decision that Robin Wright would now take the lead as Claire Underwood, re-writing the final episodes of season five to see the character sworn into office as the President of the United States. It also decided to reduce season 6 from 13 to 8 episodes and announced it would be the final series.

In 2013, House of Cards became the first original online series to receive major nominations from the Primetime Emmy Awards. The series has received 53 Emmy nominations to date, with seven wins — including the first major Emmy for a streaming service for David Fincher’s win for “Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series.” House of Cards received six Golden Globe nominations, and two wins.  The historic series has gone on to receive a whole host of awards including 11 Screen Actors Guild nominations with two wins; an AFI Award; four Writers Guild Award nominations, with one win; two BAFTA nominations.
