The hotly anticipated new horror film Hereditary is finally due to hit cinemas this Friday 15th June following incredibly positive reports from Sundance (read our review here) and electric word of mouth from overseas.

The story centres around a family who experience supernatural (or psychological?) events and sensations following the death of a close relative, which sends them all spiraling head first into frightening, life-threatening delirium.

Debut director Ari Aster and production company A24 have crafted a genuine genre masterpiece that is sure to go down in the annals of horror history next to classics like The Exorcist, The Shining, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Rosemary’s Baby. The film also features heart-stopping performances from the cast including Toni Collette, Gabriel Byrne and the brilliant Milly Shapiro, as daughter Charlie.

HeyUGuys had the pleasure of meeting writer/ director Ari Aster and star Toni Collette at the film’s recent London junket, in advance of its Sundance London premiere. During the interview we discussed the art of crafting scares for modern audiences, the difficulty of finding such exceptional screenplays/ roles in Hollywood and what the future holds for the genre and Hereditary director.

Here’s the interview. Hereditary is out in the UK on the 15th of June and the US on the 8th of June.
