Gravity-PosterBringing a big opening to this year’s Venice Film Festival, Alfonso Cuarón’s Gravity has already been earning very positive early reviews from festivalgoers – you can read our review here.

The movie has long been one of the most anticipated of the year, and with its position on Warner Bros.’ calendar in an October slot, there’s naturally been Oscar buzz surrounding Cuarón’s latest for some time now.

Following the movie’s premiere out in Venice, the studio have released a new poster, with George Clooney front and centre.

Bullock plays Dr. Ryan Stone, a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky (Clooney) in command of his last flight before retiring. But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalsky completely alone—tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness.

The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth…and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left.

But the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space.

Sandra Bullock of course stars opposite Clooney in the lead, with the two starring as essentially the sole cast members throughout.

Cuarón is directing from a script he co-wrote with his son, Jonás Cuarón (Año uña / Year of the Nail), with David Heyman (Harry Potter, I Am Legend) producing alongside the director.

Gravity will be released in 3D and IMAX 3D on October 4th in the US, with its UK release date set slightly later for 18th October. Here’s the latest poster, which you can click through to enlarge.
