Joining the likes of Doug Liman and Rupert Wyatt, Verbinski is said to have come to an amicable decision with the studio to leave the picture due to scheduling issues as a number of other projects have now taken president.

The race is now on to find another suitable director to take over the helm as casting is in full swing and filming due to start within the next few months to meet its scheduled February 2019 release. The only mainstay of the production at this point is Channing Tatum.

Tatum will play Gambit, whose ability to control kinetic energy enables him to weaponize playing cards and other projectiles. He’s also pretty handy with a b? staff. In the comics, Gambit was a member of the Thieves Guild before joining the X-Men. Gambit has already made an appearance in an X-Men adventure, 2009’s Wolverine to be exact, with Taylor Kitsch playing the role.

Tatum is producing with partner Reid Carolin through their Free Association production company, along with Simon Kinberg on a script written by Joshua Zetumer, the film has been in development for several years at Fox.

Whether the new obstacle of losing their director will affect its release of February 14th, 2019 is anyone’s guess. Watch this space for further updates.
