We saw the first trailer and poster for one of Alexander Payne’s next directorial effort, The Descendants, back in May, and they were both absolutely fantastic.

Then last week we got the first clip from the film, in which George Clooney met his daughter’s boyfriend for the first time, and this has now been followed up with another new clip, The Playlist report, which expands on a scene from the trailer.

Academy Award-winning writer-director Alexander Payne is returning for his first feature film since 2004’s Sideways, which won him his Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay. The film’s lead star, George Clooney, is of course himself also an Oscar winner, for Stephen Gaghan’s Syriana, and I can’t wait to see the film the pair have made together.

“Synopsis: From Alexander Payne, the creator of the Oscar-winning SIDEWAYS, set in Hawaii, THE DESCENDANTS is a sometimes humorous, sometimes tragic journey for Matt King (George Clooney) an indifferent husband and father of two girls, who is forced to re-examine his past and embrace his future when his wife suffers a boating accident off of Waikiki. The event leads to a rapprochement with his young daughters while Matt wrestles with a decision to sell the family’s land handed down from Hawaiian royalty and missionaries.”

This new clip shows Clooney looking to his daughter for help in raising her sister, with Clooney feeling a little out of his depth in parenting skills. The way the younger daughter says, “Don’t I look divine?” is pretty excellent, even if it’s not the focus of the scene. These new clips give a great impression of what we can expect from the film, due out here on 20th January next year, and it’s definitely something to look forward to in the new year. Without further ado, here’s the new clip.
