Kathryn Bigelow’s Zero Dark Thirty is one of a handful of strong contenders coming our way this December in the US, in the height of the Oscar season.
The film sees the director returning behind the camera following her acclaimed 2008 US war film, The Hurt Locker, with her subject now somewhat controversially turning to the hunt for Osama bin Laden.
We caught the first teaser trailer for the film over the summer, and now Apple have debuted the full-length trailer, with its release now just over two months away.
“The upcoming true-life drama “Zero Dark Thirty” details the decade-long global hunt for Osama bin Laden, and in this exclusive in-theater banner, you get a satellite view of his secret compound in Pakistan. Two Black Hawk helicopters are seen approaching the fortified compound in the moments before Navy SEALs carried out the raid that lead to bin Laden’s death. The movie from the Oscar-winning writer and director of “The Hurt Locker,” will hit theaters on December 19.”
The impressive ensemble is headed up by Mark Strong, Joel Edgerton, Jessica Chastain, Kyle Chandler, Jason Clarke, James Gandolfini, Scott Adkins, Jennifer Ehle, Chris Pratt, Édgar Ramirez, Frank Grillo, Nash Edgerton, and Mark Duplass, with Ricky Sekhon taking the role of bin Laden himself.
And just yesterday, we got our first look at James Gandolfini, whose role had been kept under wraps until now by the filmmakers.
Bigelow is once more directing from a script by Mark Boal (The Hurt Locker), with the two producing alongside the increasingly amazing Megan Ellison (True Grit, The Master, Lawless).
Zero Dark Thirty will be released in the US in on 19th December, and will be following here in the UK on 25th January in the New Year, by which time we’ll know if it will be heading for the Oscars in February. For now, here’s the full-length trailer.
