Ben Affleck’s Argo was one of the surprise films getting its world premiere at the Telluride Film Festival at the end of last week, where it received the brilliant early reviews we’ve all been expecting, cementing it as a very strong Oscar contender in the months to come.

The first trailer for the film was immense, and with it heading to the Toronto International Film Festival this Friday, Warner Bros. have released the first TV Spot from the highly-anticipated dramatic thriller.

“Based on true events, Warner Bros. Pictures’ and GK Films’ dramatic thriller “Argo” chronicles the life-or-death covert operation to rescue six Americans, which unfolded behind the scenes of the Iran hostage crisis–the truth of which was unknown by the public for decades.”

Affleck takes the lead as the expert exfiltration specialist, starring alongside a fantastic cast, headed up by Scoot McNairy, Bryan Cranston, John Goodman, Alan Arkin, Kyle Chandler, Taylor Schilling, Clea DuVall, and Tate Donovan.

Based on real-life events, Affleck is behind the camera for his third feature, with Chris Terrio penning the script, adapting the original 2007 article, How the CIA Used a Fake Sci-Fi Flick to Rescue Americans from Tehran, by Joshuah Bearman – if you have a few spare minutes, it makes for a fascinating read.

Argo will be released in the US on 12th October, before heading to the UK slightly later on 9th November. With such brilliant talent on board, this is definitely going into the Oscar season with significant buzz behind it already, so be sure to catch this on the big screen as soon as you can in the next two months.
