Based on a true story, Ariel Vromen’s The Iceman has made its world debut at the Venice Film Festival, and will soon be continuing on to Toronto early next month.

Early reviews for the crime-thriller have already been mixed, and it looks like this could be one that will have audiences a little divided. The cast is undeniably fantastic, headed up by Michael Shannon, and Apple have now released the first trailer, along with a slightly updated poster, to give us a taste of what to expect.

“THE ICEMAN is the true story of Richard Kuklinski, loving husband, devoted father, ruthless killer. He is believed to have killed 100 people between 1964 and 1986.”

Vromen is directing from a script he co-wrote with past collaborator Morgan Land (RX / Simple Lies), and has assembled a fine supporting cast in the form of Winona Ryder, Ray Liotta, Chris Evans, David Schwimmer, Stephen Dorff, and James Franco.

The Iceman will be playing at TIFF on 10th and 11th September, and will be seeking international distribution. Entertainment One have acquired the Canadian rights, and with a bit of luck, either they or Lionsgate will pick it up for the US and UK. For now, here’s the first trailer for your first taste from the thriller. Shannon looks to be on top form, as ever.
