The US remake of beloved UK comedy series The Inbetweeners has been in the pipeline for a few years, and now it’s finally on the cusp of hitting the small screen across the Atlantic.

MTV have released the first trailer for their new version of the series, and whilst I admit I’ve not seen the original, this remake doesn’t exactly look brilliant – and I feel like fans of the UK series will agree, no doubt with passionate hatred for the new take.

“Will, Simon, Jay and Neil aren’t losers. They aren’t popular either. Not yet. They exist somewhere in the middle. Just four friends plotting a course through the awkward and often humiliating journey of being a teenager. Finding strength in their shared shortcomings… mostly by mocking each other. Because that’s what friends are for.

Based on the hit British series, The Inbetweeners is a show about the days you never forget. An authentic peek at a group of teenagers charging into adulthood the way we all do… by taking one step forward and three steps back.”

We heard earlier this month that Paramount are looking to adapt The Inbetweeners Movie as well for a US remake on the big screen, so here’s to hoping they’ll have better luck with that. I could be wrong, but I’m not sure I can see this series lasting the original’s full three seasons.

The Inbetweeners will debut on MTV on Monday, 20th August. For now, here’s your first look at the new series.
