Following on from the Spielbergerama that was the trailer for JJ Abrams Super 8 earlier today The Daily Mail’s Baz Bamigboye has unveiled the first production image from Spielberg’s next film, his adaptation of Michael Morpurgo’s novel War Horse.

Adapted by Lee Hall and Richard Curtis, the film follows a young man named Albert, played by Jeremy Irvine, and his beloved horse Joey who is sold and sent to the trenches of World War One, where Albert signs up to the army in order to save his friend.

Alongside Irvine the film stars Peter Mullan, Emily Watson, David Thewlis, David Kross, Stephen Graham and Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Hiddleston, and Patrick Kennedy, who you can see in the picture below.

Speaking of the delight of finding himself in a Spielberg film, Irvine also talks of a particularly intense battle scene,

It’s the weapons of the old world — our men on horses — meeting the absolute destruction of these tools of mass slaughter. There was this line of machine guns and there’s this wall of lead coming out of these guns. There were real explosions at my feet, bodies flying through the air, stunt men getting shot at. It was terrifying.

Here’s the image, we hope to see more very soon.
