There have been rumours for a while now that the current iteration of the Fast and Furious franchise would ride off into the sunset with a trilogy before the inevitable reboot with a new cast, and now Vin Diesel has taken to social media to reveal the release dates of those.

As expected, the already announced Fast and Furious 8 is being released next April, and it will land on the 14th of that month to be exact. Fast and Furious 9 will follow on April 19th, 2019, while the tenth instalment of the franchise (which is extremely impressive; it’s taken Star Wars nearly forty years to get to seven) is set to be released on April 2nd, 2021.

It remains to be seen whether the cast then move on or stick around for at least a couple more instalments, but what we do know is that F. Gary Gray (Straight Outta Compton) is taking the helm of part eight. It’s rumoured that Jason Statham will return for a team-up with on screen brother Luke Evans. The Rock should also have a bigger role in this one.

Taking to Instagram yesterday to discuss his 2016 schedule, the wrestler turned actor said:

“I’ll go right into shooting #FastAndFurious8. We’re a family, and playing the character of HOBBS is one of my greatest joys and I’ll make the promise to ya right now: I’m stepping on that set ready to rumble and raise the bar on all levels: The intensity, the tactical gear/weapons and especially that “Hobbs’ winking fun”. Since Fast & Furious 5, you’ve made HOBBS the highest testing character for a reason – and we’re gonna give new meaning to the catchphrase, “Daddy’s gotta go to work.” He added that he’ll be shooting for “12-14 weeks.”

With Fast and Furious 7 quickly becoming one of the highest grossing movies in history, it should really come as no surprise that the franchise is here to stay for the time being!
