The first season of Marvel and Netflix’s Daredevil was a huge hit, and it came as a massive shock when it was revealed that showrunner Steven S. DeKnight would not be returning for the show’s second season.

The Spartacus creator has a lot of other exciting projects on his plate though, as it has been announced today that he is the final addition to the recently formed Transformers writing room. He joins a number of talented scribes include Akiva Goldsman (I Am Legend) and Robert Kirkman (The Walking Dead).

Also in the mix are Zak Penn (The Incredible Hulk), Jeff Pinker (Lost), Art Marcum and Matt Holloway (Iron Man), Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari (Ant-Man), Christina Hodson (Shut In), Lindsey Beer, Ken Nolan (Black Hawk Down) and Geneva Robertson-Dworet. As many as twelve Transformers movies may follow!

In related news, the co-showrunner for Daredevil’s second season – Marco J. Ramirez – has signed up to write the script for the long delayed Akira movie. Based on the Japanese manga by Katsuhiro Otoma, Akira has come close to happening many times over the years, but has been delayed or scrapped for various reasons.

Set in a future city environment called New Manhattan, the sci-fi epic follows the leader of a bike gang who must save his best friend, who has been experimented on by the government causing him to develop dangerous and destructive psychokinetic powers. Whether a release date will follow remains to be seen!
