Sinister (which starred Ethan Hawke) was a surprise hit back in 2012 when it grossed over $77 million on a $3 million budget, and like a lot of horror movies these days, it’s getting a sequel with a lesser known cast and director. Today, Blumhouse Productions and Focus Features have released the first teaser trailer.
It’s really more of a trailer teaser in all honesty and a longer version will likely be released fairly soon. As a result, not an awful lot is revealed here, but it certainly looks just as creepy and frightening as the first one!
In the aftermath of the shocking events of Sinister, a protective mother (Shannyn Sossamon of Wayward Pines) and her 9-year-old twin sons (real-life twins Robert and Dartanian Sloan) find themselves in a rural house marked for death as the evil spirit of Buhguul continues to spread with frightening intensity.
Sinister 2 also stars James Ransone. The first movie’s director Scott Derrickson wrote the script alongside Sinister scribe C. Robert Cargill. The sequel is being directed by Ciaran Foy (Citadel). Derrickson is obviously busy developing Doctor Strange for Marvel! Sinister 2 is set to be released on August 21st.
