Christopher Nolan has set his next big feature at Universal Pictures with a release window of Summer 2026.

Matt Damon, who starred mostly recently in Oppenheimer, is currently in negotiations to reunite with the filmmaker.

Nolan will pen the story and will produce with Emma Thomas under their Syncopy banner.

Sources tell Variety that Universal plans an IMAX release for the title on July 17, 2026. Plot details remain under wraps. The film is expected to shoot in early 2025.

This will be the third time that Damon and Nolan have worked together. Damon previously appeared in 2014’s ‘Interstellar’ before ‘Oppenheimer.’ Nolan has a talent for collaborating with the same actors on multiple projects, and Damon now joins the ranks of Christian Bale and Murphy as actors who have worked with Nolan on at least three occasions.

Nolan – who was previously synonymous with working with Warner Bros but parted ways with the company after their plans to premiere their projects on HBO instead of solely on the big screens – is sticking with Universal after the major success of ‘Oppenheimer.’ The biopic grossed $328.9 million at the domestic box office and $975.6 million worldwide and brought in several accolades as well. The film won seven Oscars including Best Picture, Best Director and acting prizes for Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr.
