Lightning McQueen is no stranger to overcoming a few hurdles and after its teaser, which was released back in January, showcasing his horrific crash, somersaulting through the air things looked pretty bleak for this champion racing car.

Now with a brand new trailer showcasing the stronger, faster and sleeker new generation, is it a question of time before Lightning is made to retire? The trailer, which builds up to his crash, also shows him determined not to let the new blood steal his racing thunder as he puts himself through a grueling comeback against all odds to show he is still the one to beat as he gets a major overhaul.

Owen Wilson returns to Disney Pixar’s winning team but is now also joined by new blood to give an injection of life with Cars animator turned director Brian Fee. New characters joining the track is the confident and cocky Jackson Storm, who is voiced by Armie Hammer and Rust-eze Racing center trainer, Cruz Ramirez, voiced by Cristela Alonzo.

Tackling the theme of ageing in the sports world, which is a common issue throughout sports, we are set for quite an emotional journey as we experience the fall from grace for this beloved character.
