The first look trailer for Marvel’s Captain Marvel has finally landed online after making its debut on Good Morning America.

Said to be more powerful that Thor, and possessing a number of abilities which will have huge ramifications for the MCU (including untangling the controversial ending to Avengers Infinity War) Captain Marvel signals a new direction Marvel’s ongoing cinematic universe. With the emphasis on Universe.

Larson stars as Carol Danver, an Air Force pilot whose DNA is fused with that of an alien during an accident. The resulting alteration imbues her with the superpowers of strength, energy projection, and flight. The film will be set in the ’90s before the Avengers ever thought of assembling, and Samuel L. Jackson is expected to reprise his role as Nick Fury.

The film takes place in the mid-1990s and the superhero is the first one that Nick Fury meets. When the movie begins, Carol will already have her powers and has joined an elite Kree military team called Starforce, led by Jude Law’s commander.

However, she finds herself back on Earth to battle with the Skrulls as they invade the planet with Ben Mendelsohn’s Talos at the head of the army.

Recently we spoke to Gemma Chan, who joined the cast as Captain Minnerva,

and she dropped something of a spoiler (although those keeping up with set pictures will know something like this was afoot) about the film – so SPOILER warning etc etc… Skip to 6:30 for the info.

And before the trailer, it’s worth catching up on how exactly Captain Marvel is, and how she figures in the MCU following Avengers Infinity War.
