American Sniper has been a bigger success than anyone expected, earning over $360 million worldwide to date. Bradley Cooper is already a leading man, but you have to imagine that movie will make him more in demand than ever before. For proof, look no further than Warner Bros. scooping him up for Orphan X!

That’s the hope anyway as the studio is currently in negotiations for the movie rights of the upcoming novel from acclaimed author and comic book writer Gregg Hurwitz. Orphan X focuses on a man named Evan Smoak. He’s called a “Nowhere Man,” and he helps others, sometimes through violent means. A job draws him into a world of human slavery, engineered by a detective of the Los Angeles Police Department.

Smoak is the role that Cooper is being eyed for, and the plan is for him to produce alongside Todd Phillips.

Hurwitz is also attached to writer the movie’s screenplay, but the book itself won’t be published for another year. Previous novels include Don’t Look Back and Tell No Lies. His comic book work has seen him focus on characters like Batman, The Punisher, and Wolverine. There’s no word on a release date for the film.

Seeing as Warner Bros. hold the rights to the DC Comics properties, it’s surprising that Cooper has yet to land a leading role in one of those. He does voice Rocket Raccoon in Guardians of the Galaxy though!
