GODZILLA

With a North American box office debut of over million this weekend and 3 million overseas (the biggest opening of 2014 so far), it should come as no surprise to learn that a sequel to Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla has already been given the green light from Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures.

According to Deadline, they’ve heard that plans for a sequel are already underway!

Edwards has already revealed some ideas about what he would like to with a sequel given the chance, and though he was something of a risky choice for the studio as his previous film Monster grossed only $4.2 million, that has obviously paid off for them after a positive response from critics and the strong box office numbers mentioned above.

The site has no details on whether Edwards will return or if Max Borenstein will pen the follow-up.  Both men played crucial roles in bringing this take on Godzilla to life on the big screen though, so it’s hard to imagine that Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures wouldn’t court them both for a Godzilla 2.
