Having discussed The Sense of an Ending with its director Ritesh Batra, we then had the pleasure of meeting actor Billy Howle, who shares the film’s lead role of Tony, with national treasure Jim Broadbent.

Billy HowleWe discuss whether Howle had seen Batra’s preceding endeavour, the BAFTA nominated The Lunchbox, prior to getting involved in this project, and how he went about playing Tony in this – and whether he wanted to match the distinctive sensibilities that Broadbent carries, or treat the role entirely on its own merit. He also speaks about how surreal it is seeing his face on posters for the film, adorning the walls of the London Undergrounds, and on his two future productions, starring alongside Saoirse Ronan in both The Seagull and On Chesil Beach.

The Sense of an Ending is released on April 14th, and you can read our review of the film here.
