Ben Affleck recently expressed an interest in taking the helm of a solo movie starring Batman, something he’s been rumoured to be involved with for some time now. While the movie may not have a release date, it’s believed that the actor actually signed up to direct that when he joined the DC Extended Universe as the Dark Knight for Batman v Superman.

When (and possibly if) it’s going to happen remains to be seen, but a new report from a site which is very reliable when it comes to comic book movie news sheds some light on what we should expect from the screenplay currently being written by Affleck and Geoff Johns.

As expected, this Batman movie will indeed feature the big screen debut of the Red Hood, a.k.a. Jason Todd. He was the second Robin – whose graffiti covered suit could be seen in the Batman v Superman trailer – and was murdered by The Joker in the classic “A Death in the Family” storyline. Rumour has it that the scene will be recreated in a flashback in Batman v Superman, though that obviously hasn’t been confirmed. After returning from the dead in “Under the Hood”, the Red Hood started off as an antagonist wanting revenge on both Batman and The Joker, but has since become a hero and a reluctant ally to Batman.

So what role will he play in this movie? Red Hood is apparently a “priority” character, and someone Warner Bros. are hoping will essentially be the DC Extended Universe’s Winter Soldier! In this Batman movie, Todd will have returned from the grave and will be, “working in the shadows to make people think he’s Batman, while making Batman look like a criminal. At the same time he leaves clues about his identity for Bruce/Batman to ultimately solve, leading to a confrontation that will involve Batman, Red Hood, and yes, The Joker.”

Taking on The Joker and Red Hood will be no easy feat for Batman, so it’s a good job that he’ll have some back up in the form of Dick Grayson, the first Robin, who went on to become Nightwing. That character will be referenced but won’t appear in Batman v Superman.

One final very interesting note is the fact that the studio wants an unknown to take on the role, while the site also adds that his look will be a mixture of both the comics and the recent Arkham Knight video game. Needless to say, this movie can’t get here soon enough…
