We are positively awash with comic book and superhero news at the moment, with casting news, director announcements and on-set shots for The Avengers, Spider-Man, X-Men, Captain America, Thor and Superman arriving on a daily basis.

With Sir Michael Caine having suggested that Batman 3 would kick off filming in May 2011, we now have news from Coming Soon that in fact filming is hoped by Warner Bros to be kicking off in April, starting in New Orleans.

Apparently The Green Lantern has been filming there and it certainly sounds a little surprising to have Batman filming there, as opposed to in Chicago. No doubt there is a good reason for shooting there, closely connected with some element of awesomeness that will become clear in due course.

Coming Soon go on to rattle off a list of other projects with current or impending shooting dates, including Men In Black III (shooting from October 18th in New York), Ghost Rider (November, Romania & Turkey), the Spider-Man reboot (December, Los Angeles), The Avengers (February, LA again), X-Men: First Class and Captain America: The First Avenger (already underway, London and elsewhere in the UK) and finally the Superman reboot and Wolverine 2 which have no start dates yet, but seemingly plenty of momentum.

It is exciting to see so many big, enticing projects on the go or champing at the bit, especially Batman 3, which is going to be (rightly) the most hotly anticipated comic adaptation of the bunch, given the enormous critical and commercial success of Batman Begins and The Dark Knight.

It’s also interesting to see Spider-Man shooting in LA. I had thought New York City was intrinsic to Spider-Man and how a different background will work will be interesting to see. Presumably a little bit of F/X jiggery-pokery will be involved and we’ll never notice the difference.

We’ll keep you posted on all of these films as they progress. Exciting times!
