When Arnold Schwarzenegger returned to acting (something which has had mixed results for the former Governor of California so far), one of the first projects he revealed his involvement with was a sequel to Conan The Barbarian and Conan The Destroyer.

There have been a few minor updates on the project since then, but with no word on a director or release date, it’s fair to say that most of us had forgotten The Legends of Conan.

Well, Schwarzenegger has now confirmed that the script has been completed and that they’re actively looking for a filmmaker to take the helm with the intention being to start shooting later this year. However, it also sounds like the movie has a new title!

“Conan the Conqueror, where I’m sitting on the throne for years and years – decades, and then all of the sudden, the time comes when they want to overthrow me,” the actor said when asked about the plot. “So that story WILL be told and that movie WILL be done.”

At 68, his Conan will be the oldest we’ve ever seen, but Schwarzenegger isn’t worried about the physical challenges which come with the role. “I feel great and the last few movies that I’ve done, I’ve done many of my own stunts. I did all the physical stuff and it didn’t wipe me out and I have plenty of energy and feel really terrific. So I am absolutely convinced that I can do the Conan movie and do the horseback riding, the sword fights and all the fighting.”

Will the newly titled Conan the Conqueror ever happen? It certainly sound as if that’s the plan, and while things do seem to be moving forward with it, we’ll have to wait and see.
