While it would be easy to accuse Hollywood of running out of ideas seeing as they’re bringing a mobile game with absolutely no narrative whatsoever to the big screen, The Angry Birds Movie looks surprisingly great. This new sheds some light on the story which Sony has managed to come up with anyway, and there are some genuinely very funny moments too.

Whether or not we’re looking at a new animated franchise with The Angry Birds is hard to say at this stage, but with a fantastic voice cast and great looking animation, this could work!

Here’s the official synopsis for The Angry Birds Movie along with the brand new trailer:

The movie takes us to an island populated entirely by happy, flightless birds – or almost entirely. In this paradise, Red (Jason Sudeikis – We’re the Millers, Horrible Bosses), a bird with a temper problem, speedy Chuck (Josh Gad in his first animated role since Frozen), and the volatile Bomb (Danny McBride – This is the End, Eastbound and Down) have always been outsiders. But when the island is visited by mysterious green piggies, it’s up to these unlikely outcasts to figure out what the pigs are up to.

The Angry Birds Movie was directed by Clay Kaytis and Fergal Reilly, and stars Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Danny McBride, Maya Rudolph, Kate McKinnon, Tony Hale, Keegan-Michael Key, Bill Hader, and Peter Dinklage. It’s set to be released on May 20th, 2016.
