American-Hustle-Poster-Christian-BalePrimed for the Oscars with a late-December release date in place, David O. Russell’s American Hustle has long been one of the most anticipated films of the year.

Russell went to the Oscars at the start of the year with Silver Linings Playbook, which won Jennifer Lawrence a very well-deserved Academy Award, along with a nomination for her co-star Bradley Cooper.

And now all signs are pointing to a return for Russell and his cast early next year, with the first teaser trailer setting the tone brilliantly for the crime-drama. And following that early tease over the summer, Sony has launched the first full-length trailer, giving us another terrific look at what’s to come in just over two months’ time.

A fictional film set in the alluring world of one of the most stunning scandals to rock the States, American Hustle tells the story of brilliant con man Irving Rosenfeld (Christian Bale), who along with his equally cunning and seductive British partner Sydney Prosser (Amy Adams) is forced to work for a wild FBI agent Richie DiMaso (Bradley Cooper). DiMaso pushes them into a world of Jersey powerbrokers and mafia that’s as dangerous as it is enchanting. Jeremy Renner is Carmine Polito, the passionate, volatile, New Jersey political operator caught between the con-artists and Feds. Irving’s unpredictable wife Rosalyn (Jennifer Lawrence) could be the one to pull the thread that brings the entire world crashing down.

Christian Bale, Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, Amy Adams, and Jeremy Renner lead a very promising cast, with Robert De Niro, Jack Huston, Louis C.K., Michael Peña, Elisabeth Rohm, Dawn Olivieri, and Alessandro Nivola completing the ensemble nicely.

Russell is directing from a script he co-wrote with Eric Warren Singer (The International), with Megan Ellison and Charles Roven producing alongside Cooper himself, who executive produces here.

American Hustle is due to be released in the UK on 20th December, with its US release date landing less than a week later on December 25th.
