Another movie focusing on the build up to crucifixion of Jesus, Mel Gibson would have been wise to leave the subject well alone after the controversy which surrounded this one years before the release of The Passion.
Portraying Jesus in a way which saw him fantasising about having sex obviously didn’t sit well with many moviegoers, but that pales in comparison to the fact that he ultimately ended up marrying Mary Magdalene instead of dying on the cross.
That’s obviously a gargantuan departure from the Bible, and protests followed. Still banned in some countries to this very day, violence even ensued in some cases, with a number of people injured when a fundamentalist group set fire to a cinema in Paris with Molotov cocktails.
