8. Mel Gibson (56)
Mel Gibson was one of the greatest action heroes of the 80s and 90s, but he’s now become perhaps best known for his questionable views and scandal causing actions at home.
It’s a great shame that his name has become more synonymous with controversy than this genre as he’s so damn good at it, proof of which came in Get the Gringo, The Expendables 3, and to a much lesser extent, Machete Kills. If Gibson could get his personal issues in check and line up a few decent projects, there’s every chance he could rise back up to the top of the action movie mountain regardless of his age.
There’s unfortunately no sign of that happening just yet, but it’s hard not to hope it does when thinking back to the likes of Lethal Weapon and Mad Max.
