Having graced our screens of late in Alan Rickman’s A Little Chaos, Matthias Schoenaerts is back in a period drama setting with his latest role, playing Gabriel Oak in Thomas Vinterberg’s Far From the Madding Crowd – and we had the pleasure of sitting down with the talented performer to discuss the project.

Schoenaerts is quick to make it clear that his recent venture into the period drama is merely coincidental rather a career choice, while he also speaks about collaborating with the brilliant Carey Mulligan, who takes on the lead role. He also tells us his favourite chat-up line from the movie, and he explains why he thinks that Eddie Redmayne – who he has worked with on The Danish Girl – could well be in line for a second consecutive Oscar next year.

Far From the Madding Crowd is released on May 1st. You can read our review here.
