Your reaction to seeing this post is probably similar to ours. Going through the emotions of, ‘what the’, to ‘why’ to ‘oh goodness it’s a live action movie’! But anyway, here’s the brand new trailer for the live action Woody Woodpecker (or Pica-Pau in Portuguese) movie which has been released in Brazil.

Just when you think it couldn’t get any worse you’ll watch the trailer and realise it actually can as it’s probably up there with one of the most annoying we’ve seen in quite some time.

Woody Woodpecker does actually have its roots back in short film cinema with theatrical versions of the show first introduced back in the 1940s by the Walter Lantz animation studio. Lantz is somewhat of an animation legend whose creations also include Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck before creating Woody Woodpecker. He favoured creating longer versions of the animations to show theatrically rather than the shorter pieces that his peers were concentrating on.

Director Alex Zamm (Inspector Gadget 2) helms the cast which includes Timothy Omundson, Thaila Ayala, Graham Verchere, Jordana Largy and Eric Bauza.

My intro was probably overly harsh and although the trailer doesn’t blow me away (sadly quite the opposite), with a wonderful backstory and huge amounts of history, it’ll be nice to see Woody back on the big screen where he belongs. What do you think? Let me know in the comments below.

It looks like it’ll be released 2017 so watch this space Woody Woodpecker fans.
