Apple have premiered the first trailer and poster for David O’Russell’s The Fighter.
The film stars Mark Wahlberg, Christian Bale, Amy Adams, Melissa Leo and Jack McGee.
The Fighter is a drama about boxer “Irish” Micky Ward’s (Wahlberg) unlikely road to the world light welterweight title. His Rocky-like rise was shepherded by half-brother Dicky (Bale), a boxer-turned-trainer who rebounded in life after nearly being KO’d by drugs and crime.
Although it features a solid cast and impressive-looking cinematography – and looks a dead cert to attract awards buzz for those reasons – The Fighter looks poor in comparison to other fighting films, in particular Darren Aronofsky’s Academy Award winning The Wrestler.
