You have to love Arnie’s 1990 Total Recall. Masses of excess, blood and deaths galore, three boobies before everyone in Paul said it was awesome and Michael Ironside losing his arms.

Len Wiseman is bringing us a reworking of the film, this time deaing with competition between two very much Earth-bound nation states, Euromerica and New Shanghai, with Colin Farrell’s factory worker coming to believe that he is a spy, though without any clear idea as to which side he is on.

Ronny Cox played villain Vilos Cohaagen in the 1990 film with much sneering and malice and this time around Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad, Malcolm in the Middle) is on duty, with Cohaagen as the leader of Euromerica, planning an invasion of New Shanghai. At least in theory, all of this is beginning to sound a bit more promising, with some new ideas seemingly cropping up rather than a straight remake.

We’ll keep you posted as more news breaks.

Dave has been writing for HeyUGuys since mid-2010 and has found them to be the most intelligent, friendly, erudite and insightful bunch of film fans you could hope to work with. He's gone from ham-fisted attempts at writing the news to interviewing Lawrence Bender, Renny Harlin and Julian Glover, to writing articles about things he loves that people have actually read. He has fairly broad tastes as far as films are concerned, though given the choice he's likely to go for Con Air over Battleship Potemkin most days. He's pretty sure that 2001: A Space Odyssey is the most overrated mess in cinematic history.
