The-Place-Beyond-the-Pines-Poster-UKOpening in just a few weeks’ time, Derek Cianfrance’s The Place Beyond the Pines is very much a must-see movie of the year. The Blue Valentine director reunites with the ever-brilliant Ryan Gosling here for an awesome, action-fuelled crime drama. And after being fortunate enough to be at its world premiere at TIFF last year, I have nothing but good things to say about the film.

The Place Beyond the Pines sees Gosling star opposite (the now also Oscar-nominated) Bradley Cooper. And with both its UK and US release dates fast approaching, Total Film have debuted the new poster for our shores.

Ian saw the film out in Toronto last year and really recommends it as well – you can read his review here. And if you need any further convincing, then just watch the brilliant first trailer.

Luke (Gosling) is a professional motorcycle rider who turns to bank robberies to support his newborn son, but when he crosses paths with a rookie police officer (Cooper) their violent confrontation spirals into a tense generational fued. THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES is a rich dramatic thriller that traces the intersecting lives of fathers and sons, cops and robbers, heroes and villain.

Gosling and Cooper are joined by a brilliant ensemble, led by Dane DeHaan, Ben Mendelsohn, Eva Mendes, Ray Liotta, Rose Byrne, Bruce Greenwood, Mahersala Ali, and Emory Cohen.

Cianfrance is once more directing from his own script, with past collaborators Jamie Patricof, Alex Orlovsky, and Lynette Howell (Blue Valentine) producing alongside Sidney Kimmel (Moneyball, Lars and the Real Girl).

The Place Beyond the Pines will be released in the US on 29th March, with its UK release date following shortly after on 12th April. Whenever this arrives in your local theatre, be sure to go see it, because it is quite simply brilliant.
