The-Iceman-UK-Quad-PosterMichael Shannon has been very much on the rise in recent years, earning an Oscar nomination for Sam Mendes’ Revolutionary Road, winning a slew of awards for his leading role in Jeff Nichols’ Take Shelter, and starring alongside Steve Buscemi in HBO’s acclaimed Boardwalk Empire. He has two major films arriving in theatres this summer, The Iceman and Man of Steel, and we can’t wait to see him in either.

Ariel Vromen’s The Iceman will be first out the gate, opening in the US early next month and in the UK over the first weekend in June. We saw a great new trailer land earlier in the year, and now Lionsgate have debuted a new UK trailer and quad poster, giving us still more to look forward to here.

Inspired by actual events, The Iceman follows notorious contract killer Richard Kuklinski (Academy Award® nominee Michael Shannon) from his early days in the mob until his arrest for the murder of more than 100 men. Appearing to be living the American dream as a devoted husband and father; in reality Kuklinski was a ruthless killer-for-hire. When finally arrested in 1986, neither his wife nor daughters have any clue about his real profession.

Shannon is joined by a terrific cast, led by Winona Ryder, Chris Evans, Ray Liotta, David Schwimmer, Robert Davi, and Danny Abeckaser, with Stephen Dorff and James Franco completing the cast very nicely.

Vromen (Simple Lies) is directing from a script he co-wrote with Morgan Land (Simple Lies).

The early reviews have been strong since its debut at the end of last summer at Venice, and all signs point to this being one of the best crime-thrillers of the year.

With Shannon then taking to the big screen once more the following week in June in Zack Snyder’s immensely anticipated Man of Steel, there’s so much to look forward to from an actor who has so far not quite gained the wide recognition he deserves. Hopefully all that will be changing this year.

The Iceman will be released in the US on May 3rd, with its UK release date following shortly after on 7th June. For now, here’s the latest UK trailer and quad poster to whet your appetites. Let us know what you think in the comments below. Enjoy.
