Three years after it was first announced and a year after its first trailer appeared, a new piece of test footage shows that attempts are still under way to bring Eric Powell’s critically acclaimed comic book series The Goon to the big screen. The adaptation has some stellar talent behind it: in addition to Powell writing the script, the movie will be produced by David Fincher, with Clancy Brown attached to provide the voice of the titular character and Paul Giamatti cast as his sidekick Franky.

If this short test clip, which shows The Goon beating a slackjaw zombie with his iconic wrench is anything to go by this movie can’t happen soon enough; both Brown and Giamatti seem like perfect fits for the characters and the animation, despite being labelled as an ‘early rough test’, brings the comics to life beautifully. Unfortunately it also reveals that funding is still being sought for the project, which isn’t too surprising seeing as this is one CG animated movie that most definitely won’t be kiddie friendly.
