We are officially two weeks away from The Dark Knight Rises making its way to the big screen, and as you’re no doubt already well aware, it won’t just be playing at the regular multiplex big screen, it will be playing on the enormous IMAX big screen too.

The film is reported to have almost an hour’s worth of IMAX footage, so this is definitely a film you’ll want to catch at the IMAX if you can.

Here in the UK, tickets are already on sale for the BFI IMAX’s month-long run of the film – the longest run of the year, by a long shot – and IMAX have just released this stunning new poster for its (really) big screen debut.

“Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ “The Dark Knight Rises” is the epic conclusion to filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy. It has been eight years since Batman vanished into the night, turning, in that instant, from hero to fugitive.  Assuming the blame for the death of D.A. Harvey Dent, the Dark Knight sacrificed everything for what he and Commissioner Gordon both hoped was the greater good.  For a time the lie worked, as criminal activity in Gotham City was crushed under the weight of the anti-crime Dent Act. But everything will change with the arrival of a cunning cat burglar with a mysterious agenda.  Far more dangerous, however, is the emergence of Bane, a masked terrorist whose ruthless plans for Gotham drive Bruce out of his self-imposed exile.  But even if he dons the cape and cowl again, Batman may be no match for Bane.”

Christopher Nolan returns for his and brother Jonathan Nolan’s final instalment in their Batman trilogy, co-writing the script from a story by the director and David S. Goyer (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight).

And Christian Bale will of course be returning with them for this final outing, with one of the best casts of the year supporting, headed up by Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, Juno Temple, and Marion Cotillard.

The Dark Knight Rises will be released in regular and IMAX theatres on 20th July in the UK and US. And if you consider yourself up for the challenge, select IMAX theatres across both countries will have a Batman Begins/The Dark Knight double-bill leading straight into The Dark Knight Rises for an immense cinematic experience. As usual with this great new poster, you can click to enlarge.
