The-Croods-PosterDreamWorks’ The Croods will be hitting theatres in less than a month, and the anticipation for the animated adventure-comedy film has been building nicely. The studio treated us to a great new trailer before Christmas, giving us a look at the prehistoric family.

And with just a few more weeks to go before it lands, they’ve debuted a new clip in which we get to see the characters voiced by Ryan Reynolds and Emma Stone go hunting.

“Surviving in a volcanic world is tough enough, but caveman Grug gets a rude awakening when an earthquake forces him to leave behind the only world he knows. With his family in tow, he ventures out into the volatile world in search of a new home. The situation becomes even more complicated when Grug’s family–but in particular his eldest daughter–become smitten with a nomad they encounter on their dangerous journey. This quirky, imaginative stranger’s search for ‘tomorrow’ is at odds with Grug’s reliance on the traditions of yesterday.”

Alongside Reynolds and Stone will be Nicolas Cage to complete the leading trio, with Catherine Keener, Clark Duke, and Cloris Leachman completing the voice cast nicely.

Chris Sanders (How to Train Your Dragon, Lilo & Stitch) and Kirk De Micco (Space Chimps) are both behind the camera here, directing from a script they also wrote together.

The studio treated us to two films last year, with Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted being a huge hit at the box office, taking almost three quarters of a billion dollars. And that was followed by Rise of the Guardians, which took $300m. and earned a lot of praise from critics all over.

Needless to say, with The Croods and Turbo on the studio’s slate in the coming months, we’ve got a lot to look forward to from DreamWorks Animation once more this year.

The Croods will be released in 3D on 22nd March in the UK and US, and that looks set to be a release date you’ll want to remember. That release slot sees it opening against Olympus Has Fallen and Spring Breakers, and I have a feeling that it will be opening to big numbers that weekend.

Since graduating, I spend as much time as possible watching films/TV shows, reading books, and listening to music. So getting to write about what I love is nothing short of awesome. Biggest film-related hope for 2014/ever: Guy Ritchie announcing the RocknRolla sequel is finally moving forward.
