This first trailer for The Words is beyond promising.

Bradley Cooper has become one of the most sought-after actors over the past few years, making a name for himself (of course) in The Hangover, and proving with Limitless that he has what it takes to lead a film on his own, and then some.

The Words sees Cooper taking the lead once more, with a very strong supporting cast in the form of Jeremy Irons, Olivia Wilde, Zoe Saldana, Dennis Quaid, Ben Barnes, Ron Rifkin, and J.K. Simmons.

Yahoo Movies have debuted this first trailer, and it’s a terrific first look at the film.

“Rory Jansen, a struggling writer, aspires to be the next great literary voice. When he discovers a lost manuscript in a weathered attaché case, he realizes he possesses something extraordinary that he desperately wishes he had created. Rory decides to pass the work off as his own and finally receives the recognition he desperately craves. However, he soon learns that living with his choice will not be as easy as he thought as he faces a moral dilemma that will make him take a hard look at the man he has become.

In their directorial debut, Brian Klugman and Lee Sternthal have crafted a subtle tale that examines how overwhelming desire can lead to unforeseen and unwanted consequences. Bolstered by a strong cast, led by Bradley Cooper and Jeremy Irons, The Words adeptly assembles multiple narratives that reveal how one man’s lost legacy holds the life of another man captive.”

If you saw Cooper in Limitless last year, you’ll know how good he is beyond the comedy that he’s best known for, and this looks like it’s going to be another great dramatic role for him, debuting at Sundance earlier this year to strong praise.

Brian Klugman and Lee Sternthal, who co-wrote the story for TRON: Legacy, are making their directorial debuts here, directing from a script they also wrote themselves.

The Words will be released in the US on 21st September, and though there’s no word yet on a UK release, I’m really hoping that that’s just a matter of time. This is one that I’ve been looking forward to for a while now, and judging by this trailer, it will all be well worth the wait. Enjoy.
