Boba Fett getting his own spinoff movie has been rumoured for a while now, and it’s widely believed that the 2018 release Josh Trank was supposed to direct was going to star the iconic bounty hunter. Well, we now know that was indeed the case as Entertainment Weekly has revealed that a teaser reel was going to be shown at Star Wars Celebration 2015.

You may recall that Trank was removed from a panel at the event due to illness, but we later found out that producer Simon Kinberg had advised Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy to remove the filmmaker from the project due to his erratic behaviour on the set of Fantastic Four. As a result, the Han Solo movie was brought forward from 2020 to 2018 instead.

Asked by the site about what the future holds in store for spinoff movie featuring various characters from Star Wars Universe, Kennedy said: “There are [possible movies] that we have been talking a lot about. But we are planning to sit down in January, since we will have had The Force Awakens released, now Rogue One, and we’ve finished shooting Episode VIII.”

“We have enough information where we can step back a little bit and say, What are we doing? What do we feel is exciting? And what are some of the things we want to explore?”

So, it sounds like we’re going to have to wait and see, but here’s hoping Boba Fett happens eventually. While some fans weren’t keen on the prospect of the mysterious bounty hunter getting his backstory fleshed out, there’s a lot of potential for a great story here. Of course, the studio needs to find a new director to take the helm, so we may have to wait a while…
