Star-Trek-Into-Darkness-Character-Poster-UhuraWith just over a week to go before J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek Into Darkness touches down in UK cinemas, the anticipation is naturally on full for what promises to be one of the biggest and best blockbusters of the year.

Dave and Jon were lucky enough to see an early screening of the film – you can read our spoiler-free review here – and by the sounds of it, the film lives up to its status as one of the must-see movies of the year.

We’ve seen plenty of brilliant things from the movie in recent months, with Paramount gearing up their campaign particularly in recent weeks. And now the studio have debuted a new video, in which Benedict Cumberbatch’s John Harrison singles out Zoe Saldana’s Uhura as his target.

When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.

With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction.

As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Benedict Cumberbatch, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, Anton Yelchin, Alice Eve, Bruce Greenwood, and Noel Clarke all lead another brilliant ensemble.

Abrams is directing from a script penned by co-writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman (Star Trek, Transformers) and Damon Lindelof (Prometheus).

Star Trek Into Darkness will be released in 3D and IMAX 3D on 9th May here in the UK. Its US release date is set for the following week on May 17th, with early screenings in IMAX theatres landing two days before on May 15th. For now, here’s the great new video to set the tone. Enjoy.
